After completing my training at VICI cosmetology school, I started my career at Toni & Guy in Wauwatosa, WI in September of 2000. Within a year I became one of the managers. It was my role to work with the staff keeping the moral high and the employees motivated. I received weekly education along with traveling to Dallas, TX for both management and styling education. After three and a half years, I decided to move in a new direction. I relocated to Beauty, Inc. on the Eastside of Milwaukee. The pace was faster, funkier, and fresh. I was able to focus on my work and myself here. I was able to travel to New York City to receiving training in razor cutting at Bumble and Bumble. Although I really enjoyed Beauty, I again decided to head in a new direction. I decided to rent a chair at Linear Salon in Bayview. This allowed me to enhance both my business and customer service skills. After one year, I came upon the opportunity to open my own salon. Now, I’ve opened Tease Salon.
What’s ahead?
I’m not looking to be the biggest salon in Milwaukee. I want to have an environment where I enjoy myself, the people I am working with, and the clients that I have in my chair. I don’t expect to be the best, I just expect me to be the best I can be. I am always looking to continue improving my styling, cutting, and coloring skills,. I feel that I have a good grasp on mine, though there is always room for improvement. On my days off, I now teach for Goldwell. I travel to salons and distributors to teach other stylists about products, color techniques, and business and customer service skills, which are definitely my favorite. I feel that many stylists go right from high school, to beauty school, then into the salon and never gain a lot of education in this. I enjoy teaching and I feel that this is an area that I am passionate about. Although I am very pleased with the salon space, I could definitely see expanding. Although I would bring in more stylists, the focus would be to bring in professions that could accommodate the clients needs and wants. I think a massage therapist or even an esthetician would be a nice addition to save the clients a trip or two. I honestly can say I love what I do and where I do it. I have an amazing team, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t laugh at work because of them! I am very thankful for what I’ve learned in the past, very excited for what I am achieving now, and looking forward to the experiences I will encounter in the future.
